Statement of Faith

THE CHURCH

  1. The name of the church is the Temuka Baptist Church.
  2. The church is a community of those who believe in one God eternally existing in three persons, the Father, the Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit: who have repented of their sins and been saved by personal faith in Jesus Christ through His atoning death and resurrection; who publicly confess their faith and who are committed to the church’s aims and functions.
  3. The church believes in:
    1.  The true humanity and Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ.
    2. The atonement made on the cross by our Lord Jesus Christ for the sin of the world.
    3. The person of the Holy Spirit bringing individuals to repent of their sins and setting apart, empowering, and imparting spiritual gifts to the church.
    4. The divine inspiration of the Bible and its supreme authority in all matters of faith and practice.
    5. The literal interpretation of the scriptures and God as the creator and sustainer of all things.
    6. Salvation by faith in Christ alone. It is the gift of God’s grace through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
    7. Membership of the church for the regenerate only.
    8. The immersion of believers as the only scriptural form of water baptism.
  4. The Ordinances of the church are:
    1. Believers’ baptism by immersion.
    2. Communion (the Lords’ supper) which is held at least monthly and open to all believers.
